Today is the second day this season where there are streams of three competitions going in one night on FloMarching. It is also the busiest day of the season with five contests in total occurring around the country. The three streams tonight will be the Whitewater Classic in Wisconsin, DCI Memphis in Tennessee, and Drums Along the Rockies in Fort Collins, CO. Here is the full schedule for both contests, formatted with times so that you can see all overlaps as well as what corps you can watch while not missing another performance.
Chops, a SoundSport group from the Minneapolis-St. Paul area will be kicking off their season and the Whitewater Classic at 6:40pm CT with their 2022 production “The Rocket Builder”. After that we will see the Green Beret Marching Band perform again as we saw them on the first three-stream day. Following them will be the first of the many World Class corps to perform today, Colts and Phantom Regiment, both of whom have been having greater seasons than they did in 2019 based on scores.
As Whitewater enters intermission, DCI Memphis kicks off with Music City at 7:40pm CT. Like Colts and Phantom Regiment, Music City’s scores have not only shown improvement from the 2019 season, but also possibly their best season in corps history with a trajectory of being comfortably in the top 17. After Music City, we enter the *DEATH ZONE* of the night, a roughly one and a half hour time in which there are constant overlapping performances scheduled.
The first group scheduled is a performance by the BKXperience Perform! Clinic Participants, but according to their website, the clinic was unable to occur this year due to logistical reasons. Just a minute apart, Blue Stars and Crossmen take the field with Blue Stars likely on the trajectory to break the 80 threshold. Around the same time will be Arsenal, a SoundSport located in El Paso, TX kicking off the performances at Drums Along the Rockies. This will be their first event of the year as well as their first streamed performance. Afterwards, starting minutes apart again, are The Battalion, The Cavaliers, and The Cadets. The Battalion, a corps traveling to Indianapolis for the first time in their existence, premiered their show on July 13th in Ogden, Utah with promising results for the race for the last semi-finals spot. The Cavaliers are likely going to be doing yet another standstill performance (per a source in the corps), and The Cadets are coming off of breaking the 80 threshold in Tupelo, MS on July 14th, so I would recommend watching The Cadets at this time.
The next three-stack is Genesis, Bluecoats, and Boston Crusaders. While you may be inclined to watch medal contenders Bluecoats and Boston, this is Genesis’s first competitive show of the season, coming off of a tour of clinics and performances all around Texas leading up to today. This is one of those scenarios where all three performances are just as intriguing as each other, so the decision is completely up to you, but I would personally watch Genesis since it will be their first competitive show of the season.
The final three-stack of the night is the Troopers, Madison Scouts, and Carolina Crown. Troopers has been gaining ground very fast since their initial premiere, passing up The Academy at DCI Boise. Madison Scouts is another one of those groups in the highly competitive 11-17 range of placements that is worth keeping an eye on as well. Along with the Boston Crusaders and the Bluecoats, Carolina Crown is gunning for a medal this year, so I would recommend you watch them in this time slot. Finally, The Academy will go on around the same time as the encore performances by Madison Scouts and Carolina Crown in Whitewater and Memphis respectively. With the first two contests wrapped up, Drums Along the Rockies enters intermission with the rest of the night being uninterrupted.
When we get back from intermission, Mandarins perform their show which is also on the trajectory to break the 80 point threshold tonight along with the Blue Stars as mentioned earlier. Santa Clara Vanguard and Blue Devils go on afterward with the score gap and caption trading storyline continuing tonight with yet another head-to-head from them. Finishing off the night are the hosts of Drums Along the Rockies, the Blue Knights, who are another competitive corps in the 11-17 finals bubble. They will finish off the night with an encore performance. That does it for today’s busy schedule of FloMarching, until the next!
