***ANTICIPATED WEATHER UPDATES ARE LIVE, MORE POTENTIALLY TO COME***
**As of 7/8, the Cavaliers have gone into COVID mitigation protocol. We don’t have a full picture of how this will affect their performance at ToC Northern Illinois, however we will update when we know more**
It’s the second time this season we have multiple shows streaming at the same time at FloMarching, and so we have our second edition of our Watch Guide to make your viewing experience simple and easy. The shows on deck for Saturday are CrownBEAT in Lexington, SC and the Tournament of Champions - Northern Illinois show in DeKalb, IL. Here is the full schedule for both contests, formatted with times so that you can see all overlaps as well as what corps you can watch while not missing another performance.
Let’s do a quick rundown.
We start off the night in South Carolina, with Heat Wave making their first appearance at a DCI show this year. Florida’s only active DCI corps is doing a more abbreviated tour this year, not returning to Championship Week because the majority of Florida School Districts are beginning school on August 10th, a day before they would’ve performed at Prelims. Because of that, as well as wanting to give members in high school the chance to attend their band camps, they’ll be wrapping up their tour in Atlanta. Following them will be the reigning Open Class Champions, the Spartans. The Nashua, NH based corps premiered at the East Coast Classic, getting first in Open there, as well as beating Jersey Surf head to head by over a point.
Over in Illinois, the first corps of the night, the Colt Cadets, begins just after the Spartans wrap things up. You may have caught them at their first show, Drums on Parade in Madison, WI. For this reason, I’m gonna recommend catching them on Friday the 15th at the Show of Shows in Rockford, IL. This will give you the chance to catch Music City Drum Corps back in South Carolina, as they started their season in Lisle, IL at the Cavalcade of Brass, but haven’t been at a show that has been streamed yet this year. After they finish, if you flip it over to Illinois, you’ll be able to catch all of River City Rhythm, as the SC show goes on an intermission until 8:48 ET with the Crossmen coming out with what is reportedly a slightly revamped production from their last streamed show. They’ve even taken a nice little jump scoring wise since the changes were put in.
Starting right about the time the Crossmen finishes up their Möbius Trip is the Colts from Dubuque, IA. They’ve been doing well this year, with their scores keeping them firmly in contention for their first finals appearance since 2007, as well as their best overall finish since their 2014 fan favorite “The Dark Side of the Rainbow”.
Back in the Palmetto State, we have a back to back to back of the best corps on the East Coast, with The Cadets starting about four minutes after the Colts do, and being followed by the Boston Crusaders, and then Carolina Crown. This will be Crown and BAC’s first head to head match up this year, and also Crown’s first performance since they topped the Bluecoats for the first time in five years at Innovations in Brass: Northeast Ohio on 7/2.
Also of note is that about halfway through the Cadets’ show, intermission in Illinois begins and the show doesn’t resume until 9:48 ET with the Blue Stars. This means that Boston be the last corps that won’t have an overlap during their show until the South Carolina show wraps up after scores are announced at 10:04 ET. Personally, I’d switch over after Crown finishes their performance to catch the majority of Blue Stars, however if you want a second helping of that gorgeous hornline, I can’t blame you.
The Cavaliers start at 10:05 ET, and from there on out, it’s all Illinois for the rest of the night, with the Bluecoats following them, and the Phantom Regiment closing things out. It will be Phantom’s second performance following a few days off the road, and they’ll have the encore for the evening.
