Hey y'all, it's always a delight, but I'm signing off and leaving you in the capable hands of one Dan Valdez for encore and scores. See y'all next time!
This definitely feels like a BK show, and it's really interesting to see the road they're going down after the departure of their design staff from 14-19. Like Dan, I think there's room to grow but it's definitely got potential.
I absolutely love the music from Swiss Army Man being utilized in Pac Crest's show, and honestly I think they should use it more throughout the show. I love this design, but it feels like their numbers will be what holds them back this year.
Cadets are currently above Phantom and Blue Stars by almost two points. Of course, that can change in a few minutes when the Drum On Parade scores come out...
Madison's ballad has probably one of my favorite moments of the year in the big hit for "As the World Caves In". Also Dolan Sipes, the composer who wrote Star-Crossed (the source for the first half of the ballad) actually auditioned for Madison's bass line and ended up getting cut in 2020. How the turn tables.
Phantom Regiment and The Cadets both performing shows that harken back to their 90s and 2000s programs. Daniel Valdez is correct that old-school fans are gonna eat this up all summer long!
Fun fact regarding last night's show: Carolina Crown’s 73.45 was their highest opening night score since 2011 when they won the season opener in Texas with a 74!
It could be the missing performers, the fact that they are only standing still, and/or no shotgun mics, but it seemed like Regiment was lacking energy and that "oomph" that they came out with in Detroit.
All done here!
Thanks for joining us! And we appreciate the 18% you gave us.
GOODNIGHT!

Ohhhh, Unchained Melody as an encore! Very cool.

The Academy will be back in a few minutes with an encore. Then scores. Then we can all go sleep.
High ceiling for The Academy, which will require plenty of work on that difficult music book.
I am very pro this dance break.
Time for The Academy, with one of the most fun shows they've had in the last few years. And they're back in formal wear!
The fight for 4th-6th in August is going to be a juicy one.
Much improvement from Santa Clara Vanguard. Added a little more since their last performance.
Definitely not the strongest performance tonight, but also when your off shows look like that, you know you're doing something right.
Blue Devils with the screaming sopranos up front at the end reminds me of their 1993 show.
Blue Devils are on the field. They are NEVER in a rush to get set up. At least, it doesn't feel like it.
It is currently 99 degrees in Tempe.
I've never seen so many people in the audience fanning themselves.
Back in less than 20 minutes.

Correction, a large part of their design staff. Their drill writer is still around.
Blue Knights have such a technically difficult show. This is going to take some polishing, I likes it.

Where does The Cadets' score put them in regards to Regiment, Blue Stars, etc?
Cadets are currently above Phantom and Blue Stars by almost two points. Of course, that can change in a few minutes when the Drum On Parade scores come out...

WhY aReN't ThEy WeArInG gReEn?!
This is NOT your typical Madison Scouts show.
Yes, you are allowed to reinvent yourself. I promise.
The Madison Scouts are taking the field for their season debut.
The Madison Scouts are taking the field for their first competitive show of 2022!
USCG Auxiliary Arizona Band kicking things off for us in Tempe, AZ!
And there's that VERY different Can't Take My Eyes Off You, Tango Style.
Cavaliers' performing a percussion/dance break very much in the style of the early 2000s Saucedo/Kuhn/Johnson books.
It definitely felt like it went on a bit long I think.
Boston's percussion is making me feel things.
Few shows have the same energy for Boston as Quincy. The Crusaders have a very loyal and passionate fanbase, especially around the Boston Area.
The Cavaliers have to be the most prominent corps hit by the color guard issue I was talking about earlier. They did however find a solid group.
Boston on the field. Working through some slight electronics issues. Announcer AMPED for Boston.
Phantom Regiment and The Cadets both performing shows that harken back to their 90s and 2000s programs. Daniel Valdez is correct that old-school fans are gonna eat this up all summer long!
Another solid performance from Blue Stars. I'm telling you, they are going to climb.
Costume change during the jam out section. People that have followed this activity for a long time are going to love this show.
VERY classic music and drill going on here. Almost like a tribute to themselves.
Interesting choice to have the conductors wear maroon jackets.
These jackets are certainly a decision. I love the stripe back on the leg though
What do The Cadets and Bluecoast have in common?
Both shows have narration about taking a trip!
Cadets time. Lots of 50s aesthetic going on

The results of the top four at that particular show were the opposite order on Finals night.
The Cadets are on the field in Quincy for their season debut.
Major props for Jersey Surf performing a full show! Best of luck this season!
It could be the missing performers, the fact that they are only standing still, and/or no shotgun mics, but it seemed like Regiment was lacking energy and that "oomph" that they came out with in Detroit.
That was a cute lil love letter to NJ
