Carolina Crown has announced their 2022 production titled Right Here, Right Now. Take a look at their teaser video below!
If you're a proper nerd like me, you immediately jumped on the Shazam app and attempted to search for the soundtrack. Unfortunately, no results were found which tells me a few things:
1. I'm not hip. At all.
2. The snippet could be part of the original music repertoire.
If you are unaware of Jacob Collier, you probably do not have an adolescent in your household. He is wildly popular and has one of the most energetic live performance acts in the World. His piece will fit perfectly with the In-The-Moment motif Carolina is striving for this production.
Benedictus is one of my favorite pieces to hear on the field and you’ll recognize it instantly this Summer. This poignant mass is highly appropriate considering the disruption of peace our World faces currently. Get ready to deal with some watery eyes and to possibly participate in the chorus. Crown used Toccata Andromeda last year in their 2021 "home" production. Of course, they sounded awesome so this year's rendition will be nothing short of glorious.
The use of neon aesthetics in their social media teasers for the production have me quite excited! I would not be surprised if we witnessed some lighting effects either on the front sideline or on the members themselves. PLEASE BRING BACK THE E-PLUME!!! Shout-out to Union H.S. 2003!
While some groups last year performed a limited tour culminating at the DCI Celebration, Carolina Crown took a unique approach. The corps created their own Spring Training bubble. The end result was a performance showcased for a live crowd and streamed on FloMarching. I would consider this a happy middle between attempting a tour and taking a year off from field production. As is this case with every unit this year, we should take note of how each one navigated 2021 and how that translated to success on the field in 2022.
Oh, and comment below if you think Crown should just keep the Jim Ott Trophy until further notice.
