On the Field is back, and marching band season has officially begun!
We’re breaking down some of the first major performances of the fall, including early looks at Avon, Carmel, and Broken Arrow. What stood out? What are we already seeing from three programs expected to be major players this season? And how much can we really learn in September?
Then we head to the DCI offseason, where the 2027 staff carousel is moving fast. We’ll discuss changes at The Academy, Blue Devils, Blue Knights, The Cavaliers, Crossmen, Seattle Cascades, Troopers, and Phantom Regiment. Including JD Shaw’s retirement, Phantom’s new design team, and what some of those moves could mean for the Mandarins.
Plus, Genesis announces it will be inactive for the 2027 season, opening a much larger conversation about The Cost of Creation and the financial realities facing modern drum corps. We’ve also got an update on the upcoming Pressboxd app, then we'll turn our attention back to the fall with Next Weekend in BAND and the shows we'll be watching this Saturday.
The uniforms are on. The props are moving. The judges have their tapes ready.
Marching band season is officially On the Field.
