Are you like me and are a huge numbers nerd when it comes to scores in the marching arts? Do you also follow WGI guard and keep a watchful eye on scores from shows around the country as the season unfolds? Then today may as well be the equivalent of Christmas morning to you.
We’re very excited to share that our 2023 WGI Color Guard dashboard is now available for viewing! This interactive tool hosted online on Google’s Looker Studio is packed with nearly 4,000 scores from the first month of the winter guard season. It includes caption recaps (both prelims and finals) from the first 14 regionals of the WGI season. It also includes scores (sorry, no full recaps) from a combined 85 shows to date from 15 different local circuits around the country.
Using these scores, we also compiled pages that track rankings by class for WGI scores (including seeding scores that WGI uses for groups attending World Championships), rankings by class by circuit, and national rankings by class by comparing local circuit scores.
Alright, enough teasing….here is the link to the dashboard! Note that the link will take you to the intro and glossary page; it is highly recommended that you review this page first to familiarize yourself with features in the dashboard and details about each page. Additional pages can be accessed by clicking the page titles in the horizontal header on top. Pages can be filtered by the drop-down menus on the top of each page, and tables can be sorted by clicking on column headers. Any filtering or sorting done will be a unique viewing experience for you and will not be seen by other users, nor will it affect any data or functionality in the dashboard.
Also, a very important note: most mobile web browsers can support viewing Looker Studio dashboards, however, some features may not work correctly. It is therefore highly recommended to view the dashboard on a desktop browser.
We will continuously add new scores and circuits as the season progresses. Expect for new scores to be added 1-2 days post event. If you have requests for specific circuits or other features to be added to the dashboard, leave a comment and we will do our best to accommodate.
Do you follow percussion and/or winds and want a similar dashboard for those activity’s scores? It’s on the way! Keep an eye out for a release in the coming weeks.
Happy number crunching!
